Logbook — Area Orbital, the 2025–2026 Turn

Always in Orbit.

A direct transmission to you, our readers, who have been following us along the way.

Some projects close the year with lists and rankings. Area Orbital, instead, chooses to close this cycle with a reflection — on what has been built, on how our listening has deepened, and on where we are heading next.

From our inaugural piece on Blade Runner, it was clear that AO was not created to repeat formulas or to treat nostalgia as a comfortable refuge. Our interest has always been in retrofuturist culture as something alive and in motion — capable of engaging with the present without losing its memory.

Over the course of this year, we found our rhythm. Denser texts when the subject demands space and attention; more direct readings when the moment calls for orientation. No rush, no hype, no unnecessary noise.

In December, this movement became more visible with the consolidation of new sections. Reviews now brings together album and single pieces that aim for more than immediate opinion, offering context and careful listening.

Playlists emerge as a natural extension of this curatorial work, shaping a sensitive narrative around today’s retro, synth, and cyber scenes.

This text is not a point of arrival, but a marker. Area Orbital remains a project in progress — by choice. What endures is a commitment to quality, to genuine listening, and to a refusal of superficiality.

Looking ahead, 2026 appears as a period of expansion: more analysis, broader perspectives on the retro/synth/cyber landscape and beyond, new formats — always without losing the axis that brought us here.

If we remain in orbit, it is because there is still much to explore together with you, who have been with us all along.
